Sarah Myers
Incline Village - Nevada - USA Sponsors: Venomous Sandboards Xwest Clothing Sarah's mild manner and humble attitude make her easy to be around. Being soft spoken and gentle one might find it hard to believe
what this young woman becomes with a board bound to her feet. But seeing is believing and watching Sarah rippin' mountains of sand or snow
one quickly realizes that there is a whole other person inside Sarah Myers. The aggressive energy that lies dormant in every day life
surfaces for the moment and Sarah's body readily responds in an impressive way. Streaking down a dune at highway speed Sarah seems to be
right at home. |
Having snow boarding in her blood for the last eight years and competing at national level for a good number of those years Sarah was primed and ready to take a shot at this sport of sandboarding. Sarah relates "My friends Josh (Tenge) and Eric (Johnson) came back from a sandboarding trip and they were telling me on the chair lift how fun it was, they were so excited! After that I just had to try it for my self, next chapter, I was hooked." True, sand and snow are two different rides but Sarah is the same girl with the same drive, the cross over was successful! In '99 Sarah missed a NSL title when she was unable to compete at the Sand Master Jam at Dumont, California but still managed to dominate Sand Mountain under DRI's attentive eye. Sarah choose to take the wise path and spent the weekend of "The Jam" on college entrance exams. Sarah realizes the future is uncertain and when sandboarding will no longer have prominence in her life there will still be bills to pay. "Education is the most important thing right now", Sarah knows. She has her head on straight and a goal in mind. With a real interest in graphic design and her roots in boarding we may well see Sarah's influence on sandboarding for many years into the future in more ways than one! Sarah's diversity is another quality that makes one take notice. She keeps involved in many sports, (snow boarding being her favorite), as well as clubs and drama pursuits. That's not where it ends though, Sarah maintains a service business she started with a friend at beautiful Lake Tahoe. Wow! One might expect all this from someone with many years under their belt but as we write this interview Sarah is just stepping into her 18th year of life. |

their 'Huck Fest' trophies. Sand Mountian |
2000 proved to be another great year for Sarah. After earning national snow titles (USASA) for 4 consecutive years Sarah took her
first Sand title as well with a #1 NSL national title and DRI's Women Points Champion title. "It is a sport remarkably like snowboarding
and sand never melts, so what board sport lover would pass up on that? It is awesome cross training. I now snowboard to get ready for
sandboarding, and sandboard to get ready for snowboarding." Add that to her 'Huck Fest' and 'Sand Mountian Open" titles and you have
perhaps the best all around women's sandboarder in the world today.
Sarah has been a Venomous team pilot for 2 seasons and was with the team when they made their historic "Oregon Dunes Tour" that started the wheels turning for a future series and the worlds first sandboard park. "Sandboarding I think has so much potential, It has already come along way and is rightfully gaining momentum." Yes it has! With the help of some exceptional athletes like Sarah Myers. Sandboarding is catching on all over the world and many of those coming into our sport are snow boarders who love to board but hate the short season. Sarah is one of those who were thrilled to find an endless season on the dunes. So, What does that tell you about sandboarding? Only what we suspected... Sandboarding is Mucho Excellente! Sarah surely knows how contagious sandboarding can be and like she says, "All it takes is one try and you'll be hooked!" |
