1999 NSL Champion |
Josh Tenge
Florence - Oregon - USA Sponsors: Xwest Pro Gear Venomous Sandboards Dr.Dune Quick Start Zeal Optics Ecko Two time Sand Master Jam champion, Josh Tenge is still climbing to higher ground. In '99 Josh shared the SMJ title with Peruvian, Marco Malaga but not so in 2000. Josh clinched the number one position with both hands and held on tight to start the new millennium with a solid win at Dumont Dunes. |
Josh was favored with the insiders after his 'Big Air' win at the Sand Mountain Open last October giving us all a taste of things to come. Just finishing out his third season snow board instructing at Diamond Peak resort at North Lake Tahoe Josh was in top shape with a fine tuning and ready to take it to the sand. The speed, control and the big back flip where ready and waiting for him when he got there! Though originally from the state of Washington Josh took to the slopes of Nevada in a heart beat and Tahoe is where he honed his snow boarding skills with a passion. "One season I boarded 100 days straight and it wasn't enough" Josh relates. Snow boarding is still his first love but sandboarding seems to be more exciting perhaps. What ever it is that attracts Josh to the dune now he never passes up an opportunity to sandboard, never! |

Sand Master Jam '99 |
Josh showed us the Venomous FreeRider that he won two Sand Master Jams and the National title with, the very same board. Across the base there were a dozen hair line cracks at the greatest point of impact flex. This is the shock absorber for the 50 foot front & back flips that Josh puts up at each event. Still, Josh keeps riding this FreeRider. Why? "This board is perfect! It's light, super strong, easy to pilot it does what I want it to." he says. That's not the only factor we're certain. As sandboards are buffed smoother by the sand they become faster and faster. The hair lines make no difference Josh's FreeRider is, by the numbers, the fastest sandboard on the planet today! Taking nothing away from the pilot's skills, Josh has all the tools to bring a board like this right into a national championship. The rest, of course, is history. |
Motocross is another of his loves that helps build balance and timing. Many hours on the trampoline are logged as well before attempting extreme maneuvers off the jump ramp. Getting in the practice Josh boards countless hours with Venomous team mates, Tyler Kent and Erik Johnson. "When you ride with this level of pilot you will constantly be pushed further. It makes you a better boarder." Josh let's you know with no guess work that you have to push your abilities and drop the fear in the recycle bin if you want to take it extreme. You may have seen Josh in Ford Motor company TV ads for the Excursion SUV featuring a few extreme sports including sandboarding. You can see that Josh is staying busy boarding from many different angles and television is just another means to put his talent through the paces.
