California - USA Sponsors: Venomous Sandboards Xwest Clothing Danali's Sports Balm 23 year-old Jennifer Burns is a 2-time Sand Master Jam champion and National Sandboard League champion as well.
She loves boarding for the challenge it presents and tends to seek out activities that are difficult and not many people try with the objective of
mastering them. Yes, she's got the right attitude for sandboarding. Traveling a good number of countries for someone so young Jennifer seems to carry
the right attitude with her wherever she goes.

Jennifer had been snow boarding for six years prior to her introduction to sandboarding. She already had the 'know how', so hearing more about the sport quickly peaked her interest. "It seemed mysterious and odd because I never heard of it before but I thought 'why not' people ride everything else, waves, snow, why not sand?" Jennifer was intrigued. "After my sister, Melinda, came home and told me she had been sandboarding that was it, I had to try it!" Jennifer hooked up with the Sandboard Magazine crew and soon enough she was out on the dune at high way speed! "I love to be outdoors and push my physical ability to see how far I can go." Jennifer admits, "Once I try something I want to perfect it. I don't just want to say 'I did it.' I want to be good at it." Sandboarding is a sport that allows her to do just that, keep improving, keep pushing her ability further and further. When you watch her streaking down a 500-ft sand dune, you quickly realize Jennifer loves riding fast and pushing herself to the limit. "Once I tried sandboarding, I absolutely loved it!" With her first sandboarding experience on the sunny slope of Point Mugu California, Jennifer had the feeling of being right at the edge of 'out of control.' "That just drew me back again with the desire to master it. Each time after that I pushed myself to do a little more and I maintain that feeling of 'just on the edge' which gives me a huge adrenaline rush and a huge smile. I do it because I love it! It's fun!" |

Not only does Jennifer sandboard and snowboard but she also enjoys water-skiing and her '71 Chevelle 'Helen'. Helen was purchased in not-so-good
condition and got a complete restoration entirely by the hands of Jennifer and Melinda. They pulled the engine and transmission four times in Helen due to
problems or upgrades. Everything under the hood is new, polished aluminum and chrome. This Venomous Sandboard pilot finds another adrenalin rush
'piloting' Helen down the drag strip at Los Angeles County Raceway. She has her eye set on a 12-second 1/4 miler by the time she's done with Helen.
"I seem to have an overall theme of speed sports," she admits.
For anyone considering getting into sandboarding Jennifer offers this advice, "Just go for it! Give yourself the challenge, relax, and most of all have fun with it!" Then adds, "The feeling of flying down a sand dune with the wind in your face is just incredible!" |
